TITAN THE OCEANGATE SUBMERSIBLE DISASTER – Blinded by hubris, arrogance and ego, Oceangate owner Stockton Rush became Oceangate murderer Stockton Rush. Ignoring the sub’s failure of all endurance testing, firing employees who raised safety concerns, overlooking the exit of many others who departed the company due to the same safety concerns, refusing to allow theContinue reading

RETURN OF THE KING THE FALL AND RISE OF ELVIS PRESLEY – New documentary covering Elvis’s life up to the comeback concert in 1968. Not a lot new here, but comments from Priscilla Presley, old acquaintances and Elvis himself, plus snippets from the ’68 concert, make this an interesting piece. And let’s face it, ElvisContinue reading
A HOUSE OF DYNAMITE – Fascinating look in real time at a nuclear attack on America. In this film we have no idea who launched the missile against us, all efforts to intercept it fail and the president has only 18 minutes to make his choice…retaliate or not. Either way, the city of Chicago isContinue reading
JUDY – Renee Zellweger takes a stab at portraying iconic Judy Garland in this film of Judy’s last year alive. A few things bothered me watching this piece. One – Renee never really captured Judy’s essence for me. And she doesn’t look much like her either, even with hair, makeup and wardrobe to match theContinue reading
REMEMBERING GENE WILDER – Poignant documentary profiling the life and career of beloved actor Gene Wilder. John is a huge fan and he found this piece wonderful. It is well worth viewing and a wonderful homage to this lovely man. Cheers! Boyfriends/Girlfriends – 0.
A PERFECT COUPLE – Not! In fact, obviously a most imperfect couple or there would be no story, which is based on the book by Elin Hilderbrand. Predictable premise – wealthy Nantucket family becomes embroiled in scandal when there is a murder on the beach in the wee hours of the morning on the dayContinue reading
MARIA – Not a fan. Not of the movie and not of famed opera star Maria Callas. Angelina Jolie delivers a good performance, but it’s not enough to save this arduous, weird film. Apparently Angelina’s real singing voice was blended with Maria’s for the desired effect. Kudos to Angie. But when the film is notContinue reading
MARTHA – Love her or hate her, kudos to Martha Stewart’s shrewd, savvy determination and steely grit! You’ve got to give it to her. She built a billion dollar empire in a man’s world, only to see it shattered when she ended up in prison for an illegal stock trade. Then she rose from theContinue reading
CARRY-ON – Stupid, impossible, ridiculous, lame. And it took forever to get going. I did like Jason Bateman as the villain. On the flip side, Mike enjoyed it as just a fun ride even though it was incredibly far-fetched. John said it had potential, but it was still God awful. Y’all know what I say….skipContinue reading
QUEEN BEES – Great vehicle for older actresses Ellen Burstyn, Ann-Margret, Jane Curtain, Loretta Devine and James Caan in what would be one of his last film roles. Unfortunately, the story is contrived and boring and just not very good. I’m glad these folks are still working, but they need to find a different scriptContinue reading
