F1 – Packed with car racing action and starting out with a bang, this Brad Pitt film about Formula One competition is loud and exciting….almost like being there. Two and a half hours flew by…much like the cars themselves and unlike most movies of that length. It’s a great vehicle for Brad, too….no pun intended.Continue reading

A COMPLETE UNKNOWN – This film of Bob Dylan’s early musical career covers the years from literally being a complete unknown to the controversial folk concert where he committed the horrid sin of playing electric guitar instead of acoustic. I’ve never been a Dylan fan although I like many of his songs when they areContinue reading
CONCLAVE – A masterpiece! Worthy of all the Oscar nominations and destined to win quite a few. Ralph Fiennes and Stanley Tucci turn in compelling performances as two priests among the entire flock congregated to select a Pope in an ancient clandestine ritual fraught with secrets, deceit and treachery. The shrouded process of choosing aContinue reading
BEETLEJUICE BEETLEJUICE – Dud Dud. That’s the consensus among the peeps. Mike gives it a 1 out of 5; John and I give it a 3; Ryan says wait for HBO. We were all fans of the fun, engaging first film. As everyone knows, Michael Keaton stole the show. So we were expecting his characterContinue reading
BARBIE – Box Office Bonanza Barbie is a smash in the theatres, but a dud for Sandi and me. There are some cute bits, and I get the girl empowerment angle and the political agenda. There are also lots of stupid situations and dialogue. And again, it’s too long. The best parts of the filmContinue reading
OPPENHEIMER – Mirith, Mike and I agree this film will rake in buckets of Oscars. The performances are stellar. The director has an excellent reputation and body of work. The subject matter is historical, intriguing and relevant to today’s politics. There are powerful scenes that drive home the lessons to be learned from creating aContinue reading
THE FABELMANS – Written, directed, produced by Steven Spielberg, and about Steven Spielberg (loosely), how could this film be anything but great, right? Right!! Cheers! Boyfriends/Girlfriends – 0.
TOP GUN:MAVERICK – This is a ride!! And there’s no need to have seen the original movie to enjoy this one thanks to its almost identical format and storyline. The inclusion of photos and snippets from the first film helps, too, and is one of the things Kelly and I enjoyed the most. The movieContinue reading
BELFAST – Written and directed by Kenneth Branagh, this film is a snapshot of a day in the life of folks living in Belfast during the extreme violence between the Catholics and Protestants in 1969. Gritty and raw, it tells this disturbing tale through the eyes of an 11-year old boy who lived it….that boyContinue reading
