THE OUT-LAWS – Puzzling why well-known, talented actors would sign on to this dud. It’s exceedingly stupid…the movie and their choices. Skip it. Cheers! Boyfriends – 0; Girlfriends – 1.

RENFIELD – Better than I expected. Campy, silly version of Dracula according to Renfield. Entertaining with some laughs. Nicholas Cage is over the top, but it works. Rest of cast is also quite good. Cheers! Boyfriends – 1; Girlfriends – 0.
THE FABELMANS – Written, directed, produced by Steven Spielberg, and about Steven Spielberg (loosely), how could this film be anything but great, right? Right!! Cheers! Boyfriends/Girlfriends – 0.
THE LORD OF THE RINGS Fellowship of the Ring – Is there anyone who hasn’t seen the LOTR trilogy? Yes. Kelly and me, to name two. So when it dropped on NetFlix we watched it. Kelly and Van loved it. I liked it, but not enough to sit through two more 3-hour films to seeContinue reading
TÁR – And the Best Actress Oscar goes to Cate Blanchett for her masterful command of an extremely challenging role. She had to learn to speak German and French fluently, conduct an orchestra realistically, utter obscure symphony terminology and composers’ names in long pieces of dialogue…and she did it all with such proficiency I believedContinue reading
THE WHALE – And the Oscar for Best Actor goes to Brendan Fraser in this heartbreaking story of obesity and broken people. Cheers! Boyfriends/Girlfriends – 0.
THE LIGHTHOUSE – Another disturbing, confusing film. Two lighthouse caretakers in 1890 go slowly mad from isolation and abuse. Filmed in black & white, and featuring only two actors for the entire piece (Willem Dafoe & Robert Pattinson), the work is terrific and the mood foreboding. Horrific two hours! Cheers! Boyfriends/Girlfriends – 0.
THE UNBEARABLE WEIGHT OF MASSIVE TALENT – Nicolas Cage spoofs himself in this comedy/action adventure flick. It’s got some laughs. I expected it to be better, but it’s entertaining. Cheers! Boyfriends – 1; Girlfriends – 0.
BABYLON – Every Oscar nominated film I’ve watched so far is long. Too long. All of them. This one is no exception. It’s a depraved story of Hollywood in the 20s and 30s as it transitions from silent movies to talkies. It’s a real downer and I found many scenes hard to watch. Brad Pitt’sContinue reading
EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE – The title is certainly appropriate! It was impossible for me to follow and/or understand what was happening in this sci/fi film. Science fiction is not my thing and the movie is two hours and twenty minutes long. The frantic bits (and there were many) made my head hurt. DespiteContinue reading
