DUBLIN MURDERS – Based upon the Squad book series by Tana French. Intriguing story and performances. The storylines are complicated, and I still don’t understand some of the plot and relationships. Case in point – the Cassie/Lexie characters. My sister Dana and I are still trying to figure out if Lexie is imaginary or real. And if she’s real, she would have to be a twin, but apparently she’s not? It makes no sense either way within the script. I was expecting all to be explained before the season ended abruptly and too soon. It wasn’t. At least not to my satisfaction. It also annoyed me that Adam’s background was revealed in such painstakingly slow dollops. Despite this, it’s interesting storytelling and I looked forward to this show every week. I also enjoy listening to the Irish brogue, although occasionally I miss a word. (And it’s helpful to practice accent proficiency) Boyfriend/girlfriend meter – one of each! Slainte!

I was addicted to this show. So dark.

So can you explain Cassie/Lexi relationship?! I’m still perplexed.

I don’t think the Cassie/Lexi relationship was truly explained. The explanation I was expecting was that as a child, Cassie created an imaginary twin because she was separated from a real twin at birth and intuitively she knew her twin was out there somewhere. Then as an adult, by pure chance, the actual twin (who I gathered was a bit of drug addict) saw the opportunity to assume Lexi’s identity after Cassie was no longer undercover as Lexi. I believe the show did offer a brief explanation that the dead girl was mistaken for the Lexi and she took advantage of it. Of course it did not end up working to her advantage in the end. I was expecting a DNA test to prove that Cassie and Lexi were twins but the show did not go in that direction. Too complicated, I guess.
The show did have a bit of the supernatural. The disappearance of the children in the forest could not be blamed on the older kids, so there were elements of unexplained mystery. Maybe Cassie’s doppelganger, Lexi, was one of those mysteries.
Despite the unexplained Cassie/Lexi thing, I still loved the series. I liked the lead actors and the dark, troubled characters they played. Another “child disappearing in the forest” series I loved was “The Kittering Incident” starring Elizabeth Debicki. It takes place in Tasmania.
So there’s your crazy rambling made-up explanation!

That would make perfect sense that there actually was a twin at birth. I never even considered that. But now that I think about it, I seem to recall the doctors swabbed Cassie to check DNA with Lexi and they were not related, (which makes no sense at all).
And I agree with the supernatural element. I always enjoy that aspect, but again, not explained. And that I don’t enjoy.
And I also agree that despite these holes, the show was great. I hope there’s a season 2!
